Military personel swear and oath to protect the Constitution and the laws of the United States. Hasan is a traitor. Period, the end. Back in the day, traitors were executed by firing squad. I say we bring that back.
Jordan--you should really think about trying to write for a newspaper or magazine. Your thoughts are incredibly insightful, and your prose is wonderful.
When your lawmakers want illegals to
have voting rights? When town hallers
are called astrotruff? When the Pres.&
the Press can't say "TERROIST"? When
waterboarding is unamerican and a killer of 13 can't be called a jihadest? And Americans think this
is, "the right thing".
This country is in jeopardy of loosing
everything we have fought and died for.
THE DEATH OF COMMON SENSE..
Hows this working for you?
And to be quite frank, the more Hasans killed before they pull a Ft. Hood, the better chesterfield. In my mind WWIII is brewing and we have a socialist muslim appeaser leading (actually bankrupting) this once great country...
Banned kitty, your analogy blows and u know it... muslim terrorism is like Walmart to abortion terrorism is to ... some dude in tijuana selling fake marlboros to Americanos - just a stupid analogy. Islam is the scourge of the planet right now... gee, look around you idiot. I don't see many peaceful muslims calling for an end to terror... actually none... so I just assume that any muslim is worth being suspicious of... i wouldn't trust one as far as i could throw one
"I think we all understand that religious
extremism leads to violence." On this
specifically, we "understand" nothing of the
kind. History and the world are chock full
of "religious extremists," and the vast
majority (Islam excluded for the moment)
cause no trouble for anyone. Think Jains,
Hasidim, Quakers, and myriad ascetic
traditions of the past. I'd rather defend
the proposition, "Religious extremism leads
to pacifism," than your assertion.
Cherished notion #3: Religious "extremism" is the problem. Religion by its nature deals in things not objective, yet accepted as absolutes. Absolute belief in something not agreed upon by all alway looks extreme from a sufficiently different viewpoint. "Extreme" ends up meaning either 1) values and beliefs one disagrees with or 2) failure to embrace tolerance and mutual respect. But 2) is ultimately just an example of 1), per CN#2. Being against "extremism" is tautological.
Cherished notion #2: Tolerance and respect for one's neighbor's values are universals that apply above the plane of other ethical or religious values; they are essential for peaceful coexistence. The latter may be true, the former not so much. Ultimately these are values like any other, subscribed to by some and not by others. It would be comforting to think they were shared by all civilized people. How sure are you they are, and why?
Cherished notion #1 is the presumed distance between people and actions such as we see here and the "true teaching" of Islam. The abortion clinic bombers are truly a fringe. I challenge you to find EVEN ONE Christian church where that's taught from the pulpit. That shooters such as Hasan are equally far from the moral center of their religion is comforting to think, but upon what is that belief based beyond the fact that it's comforting?

It’s a nice thought but would be considered cruelty to the pig, what is wrong with a volunteer firing squad of as many people that wish to attend, heck I’ll even bring my own gun and bullets. Is that any worse than what he did when he shot unarmed men and women in the back?
The cartoonist has WAY too many medals on the 'Major'. All the 'Major' has earned is a service ribbon, the most basic medal that means only that the guy got through basic and some sort of AIT. The cartoon shows at least 3 ribbons and this murderous muslim dog sh** didn't earn anything more than the service ribbon.
There's a problem with the reference to the Pro-Life movement. When a fringe activist in the Pro-Life movement commits an act of violence, such an act is IMMEDIATELY denounced by virtually all Pro-Life organizations in the nation The analogy would only be apt if Muslim clergy and congregations around the nation condemned Hasan. Somehow, I'm not holding my breath!
to bannedcat maybe not round up all the middle easterns but we sure shouldn't be handicaped because of political correctness. There is a true enemy that lies specifically in the islamic religion. The radical islamic terrorists, and we must recognize they are who they are, and what they stand for, and they must be stopped
Cherised notions? I think we all understand that religious extremism leads to violence. Look at the fringe of the pro-life mov't. People do not paint this movement as terrorists b/c of the actions of a few. However, there is a very real concern among some that the entire islamic community will be branded "terrorists" by this nut job. Do we really want to replay the post 9/11 roundups of all middle-easterns?
Churchill: "An appeaser is someone who feeds the crocodile, hoping it eats him last". Quick to tag "tea-baggers", right-wing nut-jobs, bitter clingers, etc. I'm surprised the MSM didn't just give his rank and serial number when reporting for fear that it would paint extreme Muslim terrorists in a bad light. FYI: George and Laura Bush quietly met with many of the families at Ft. Hood for hours listening and comforting them. THAT is an American president.
If you don't admit what Hasan did had anything to do with religion, you don't have to think about whether his religion was "true Islam". A lot of people will go to any length to avoid facing THAT question, because doing so (as we eventually must) will bring many cherished notions into question.
