How many more cases of jihad and honor killings do we have to see before the US and the West admit that the "religion of peace" is anything but.I heard Muslims holding prayer services in Chicago in a kind of a "COEXIST" atmosphere with "nominal" Christian groups. These prayer services are to prevent retaliation against Muslims. Where is their concern for the numerous deaths perpetuated towards our soldiers? As far as I'm concerned as a 6-yr Army vet, any recruiter who allows a Muslim to sign enlistment papers gives aid and comfort to the enemy. Any unit CO who finds he has a Muslim in his ranks needs to immediately initiate a Chpt. 13 discharge. If he won't, he needs to look the other way so the people in the unit can admin a blanket party to the infidel. Muslims are infidels to the US Army and should be treated in the same accord as Muslims treat their version of infidel-US Army Soldiers.

But when a man whose religion is understood by (at least) a sizable minority of its adherents to give moral sanction to killing unbelievers kills a bunch of unbelievers, it's seriously delusional to pretend it's just coincidence. I'm sure his religious beliefs played a role in the massacre just as the religious beliefs play a role in those who kill Doctors because they perform a legal medical procedure. Is it "terrorism"? yes in that it instill fear and terror in people, but unless the investigation proves otherwise, I'm inclined to believe that this was the act of an individual and not some sort of conspiracy.

The fact that Hasan embraces a religion with teachings that on their face tell believers to kill unbelievers could not have been a factor in this. It could not possibly have contributed to any individual sociopathy, nor could it have influenced how he reacted to or expressed any personal issues. It's bigoted and intolerant to suggest any of these might have been factors. When discussing these events, carefully avoid the mention of religion. No one takes religion seriously anyway, right?

Mike, you make a valid point. However, that is not what Hasan did. He is an American. He was not defending his own country from a foreign invader. Like one of the quotes in the news article about the shootings, you expected this sort of thing when you go over to Afganistan. Given Hasan's degree in psychology, he should have known better. There is no way anyone can claim his actions were justified.
