THIS IS WHERE YOUR STIMULUS WENT

By Charlie Sykes

While millions of americans lost their jobs, watched as friends and loved ones lost jobs, or lived in fear of losing their job, this is where some of the Obama/Pelosi stimulus spending went.

- $300,000 for a GPS-equipped helicopter to hunt for radioactive rabbit droppings at the Hanford nuclear reservation in Washington state.

- $30 million for a spring training baseball complex for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

- $11 million for Microsoft to build a bridge connecting its two headquarter campuses in Redmond, Wash., which are separated by a highway.

- $800,000 for the JohnMurthaAirport in Johnstown, Pa., serving about 20 passengers per day, to build a backup runway.

- $219,000 for SyracuseUniversity to study the sex lives of freshmen women.

- $2.3 million for the U.S. Forest Service to rear large numbers of arthropods, including the Asian longhorned beetle, the nun moth and the woolly adelgid.

- $3.4 million for a 13-foot tunnel for turtles and other wildlife attempting to cross U.S. 27 in Lake Jackson, Fla.

- $1.15 million to install a guardrail for a persistently dry lake bed in Guymon, Okla.

- $9.38 million to renovate a century-old train depot in Lancaster County, Pa., that has not been used for three decades.

- $2.5 million in stimulus checks sent to the deceased.

- $6 million for a snow-making facility in Duluth, Minn.

- $173,834 to weatherize eight pickup trucks in Madison County, Ill.

- $20,000 for a fish sperm freezer at the Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery in South Dakota.

- $380,000 to spay and neuter pets in Wichita, Kan.

- $300 apiece for thousands of signs at road construction sites across the country announcing that the projects are funded by stimulus money.

- $1.5 million for a fence to block would-be jumpers from leaping off the All-AmericanBridge in Akron, Ohio.

- $1 million to study the health effects of environmentally friendly public housing on 300 people in Chicago.

- $356,000 for IndianaUniversity to study childhood comprehension of foreign accents compared with native speech.

- $983,952 for street beautification in Ann Arbor, Mich., including decorative lighting, trees, benches and bike paths.

- $148,438 for WashingtonStateUniversity to analyze the use of marijuana in conjunction with medications like morphine.

- $462,000 to purchase 22 concrete toilets for use in the MarkTwainNational Forest in Missouri

- $3.1 million to transform a canal barge into a floating museum that will travel the Erie Canal in New York state.

- $1.3 million on government arts jobs in Maine, including $30,000 for basket makers, $20,000 for storytelling and $12,500 for a music festival.

- $71,000 for a hybrid car to be used by student drivers in Colchester, Vt., as well as a plug-in hybrid for town workers decked out with a sign touting the vehicle's energy efficiency.

- $1 million for Portland, Ore., to replace 100 aging bike lockers and build a garage that would house 250 bicycles.

If the Whitehouses says so, then it must be true? They give no proof like others did when they showed how most of the "saved/created" jobs were bogus. JS reported that the stimulus saved 6000 government jobs in WI. It is not the taxpayers' responsibility to save government jobs. We were told the stimulus was to help create permanent private sector jobs.

I don't doubt that jobs have been created by these spending items but the question is,"At what cost?" ABC estimates that it cost us $160,000 per job. Even the White House is estimating that it cost us $92,000 per job. But we all know how often the White House estimates are accurate... That would be... NEVER. In either case it does not sound like money well spent.

Here in Stoughton, a business on Main St. is getting $25,000 to renovate their building from the Porkulus Bill - don't ask me why. A relative who is a consultant on the project (Big LIB) thinks this is great. I asked him, "So this is our tax money going to somebody for no reason?" He said, "Well it will create jobs, and it's not local money, it's Federal money."!!! - So, he apparently thinks nobody has to pay for it if it's Federal money!!!!

Nice choice of a moniker btw. Lovely... you idiot. Who in f-ing hell cares about tree pests when their plant closes down and they lose their job? And maybe if these idiot Dems including OUR SACRED MESSIAH would have reduced taxes across the board for individuals and businesses alike we might have a few f-ing nickels left over to go skiing you moron. Good god, I love skiing but haven't gone in two years because of this sewer economy that BO seems determined to flat out destroy...

But hey, the stimulus is working so well that we need to pass a bill to extend unemployment benefits and maybe even have a second stimulus, because the first one is so great! Really, the first one was just a payoff to all of the campaign donors anyway. Did I forget to mention that? Oops!

Liberal, do you really want to talk about truth mattering? I believe if you look it up, our President stated that unemployment would not go over 8% percent if the stimulus passed. And what is that unemployment rate TODAY now that that stimulus is in action may I ask?

Not that the truth will matter to you conservatives about a misleading snippet attached to spending blurb (as Bill Proxmire knew well), but $2.3M spent by the Forest Service to research tree killing pests and their natural predators seems like a not a far fetched investment in science, and "a snow making facility" in Duluth (ha ha there's a laugh, don't liberals (like Obey) know what winter in Duluth is?) might extend the ski season on both ends at the public hill (and their jobs) and . . .

Don't you understand that you are not paying enough taxes. If your family had more money instead of giving it to government then you would just be spending it on the goods and services of evil private companies and they would just turn around and create employment opportunities. Then you would be employed and would not have time to wait in government healthcare lines.
