IT'S ON: MURPHY VS. BICEBy Charlie SykesMilwaukee Magazine's Bruce Murphy takes issue with JS reporter Dan Bice's coverage of the Flynn/McBride story. And Marquette's John McAdams referees. McAdams' take is especially interesting, because he managed to contact Bice (who is on vacation) to get his response to Murphy's points. |

I think the most interesting thing about McAdams story was the mentioning that Jess and Ed made Anne E Schwartz watch the "interview" for 6 HOURS!!! Sheesh! 6 hours. You ain't gonna fit THAT on YouTube!

Locke: Dan Bice's article did not provide readers with the kind of information that would allow them to reasonably know or infer when the affair occurred. That is the main issue here. Rather than providing that information, Bice created a distinct misimpression...which is inconsistent with "journalistic ethics."

I get the point about the actual "deed" being a bright line vs. the nebulous feelings that were there. That may well be appropriate in a court of law. But this is not a legal matter. While there are some generally accepted ethical standards for journalists, it's not like there's a book somewhere. Bottom line, it's very clear it most certainly is inappropriate - at best - to have an affair with the subject of an article. Period. Before, during or a reasonable time after the piece is written.

Anonymous, could not agree less. And by your comment, I suspect your beliefs lean way too far left to be a "conservative".

As a conservative, can we just go ahead and drum out Jessica McBride?
