I think the Van Halen doctrine should apply for this guy and everyone else so "transgressed." 'Everybody wants some...I want some too...Everybody needs some...baby, how 'bout you?' -Van Halen- This should be the standard on which to judge this guy.

It seems to me you are making the same judgments about me. I am glad you could care less what I think because that means we can at least agree on something.

I could care what you believe. I don't buy into all things conservative no more than I buy into all things liberal. You come across as simply a toady for whatever the current spin is for conservatives. Sanford is not a Democrat, he is not in Congress, his actions have nothing to do with conservatism, liberalism or any other ism. He has not future in the Democratic Party or the Republican Paty. Trying to connect him to the Decmocrats is so lame it is basically unbelievable.

Morality is about more than just sexual and abortion freedom. Freedom of choice should apply to many more issues than the Ds apply it to. I guess it is good that you left the Rs because you seem to believe that everyone must believe the same thing about issues to be an R. That is what Ds believe ie the state and congress. I pay my taxes w/o getting a government job. I also donate $ and volunteer my time, and do NOT go to church. I was a D but I want to be an individual not a group member.

Yes to Gore, no to Pelosi (presidential succession), no on health care, Sec. of Tres., Q? how many times has the IRS made an adjustment to you tax returns. Please don't assume my party affiliation, I left the R's over social and moral issues-does the party want be back, judging from your response -NO.

It wasn’t stretching a point as all to connect congress since you posted all the names that describe most members like “doofus”, “goof”, “bankrupt”, “clueless”, “total idiot”. DAAAA. And by the way, I can tell you are a liberal by the people you defend, not that you disagree with me. My first post said his career was over in the Republican Party, but probably not in the democrat party; you disagreed. Now you defend the liberals in congress and you expect me to believe you are not a liberal?

Do you judge Algore for flying around on a private jet preaching about how we should save the planet? How about Nancy and her private jetting to San Fran? How about the Ds in congress thinking that government run healthcare is good enough for me, but not them? Are those Ds hypocrites? Then there is Timmy G who thinks taxes are ok for me, but not him. ETC etc etc.... Get the picture! The people you support are just as big hypocrites only on different issues and not called on it.

That would be great if your morality didn't trample MY morality. However, that is not possible. Hence, we care what you do, too!

When the Republicans became the self proclaimed party of family values and assumed the mantle of moral rectitude arbitrators, then don't be surprised when the hypocrisy falls not just on individuals but on the group. From T Shiavo(sp), through philandering politicians onto media personalities with drug and marital issues-STOP lecturing and leave the rest of us to decide or own morality and its effects in our lives.

Having an affair is poor social judgment. It does not disqualify you from holding elected office. Going AWOL from your job as governor DOES disqualify from continuing in that position. What if some emergent situation had occurred that required his attention and leadership? If a firefighter, 911 dispatcher or air traffic controller had done the same thing, they would already be fired. I liked the governors ideas, but he should resign.

Mr. Sanford is a fiscal conservative not a social conservative. He is also an idiot and should go because he was irresponsible in the manner he performed his job. If he does not go willingly he should be impeached.

How dumb can these guys be? It seemed that a wave of bad sexual decisions started with Clinton and is now growing into a tsunami. They have aides, they have security, they have reporters around themall of the time. I say it again, How dumb can these guys be?

What makes me a liberal? Let me guess I didn't buy into your idiocy. If that is all it takes no wonder there are so many liberals running around. Sanford isn't in the Congress, he is a Governor. You really have to stretch a point to somehow connect this guy's strange behavior to members of Congress and how it reflects on them. But Iam sure you can come with some crazy spin to try somehow blame liberals for this goof's indiscretions.

You said “If he was any dumber he would be a tree.” and “…..it is about a goof that is morally bankrupt, clueless and a total idiot.” Sorry John, as I observe the actions of the democrat controlled Congress I just thought that was exactly the people I was referring to. So what is your point? And you are wrong, I personally do not want him as a distraction because I know you liberals will use it to make him, his wife and kids lives even more miserable than it is now.

Walt, the guy is a doofus. No one wants him, perhaps other than you. If he was any dumber he would be a tree. This has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives it is about a goof that is morally bankrupt, clueless and a total idiot.

My major problem with Sanford is not his personal life per se, but that it interfered with the function of his office. If you're the governor of a state, you don't drop out of sight without letting anyone know where you are.

Everyone is saying that Mark Sanford’s political career is over, but I thoroughly disagree. It may be over in the Republican Party but liberals have a much different standard of ethics so all Sanford has to do is change his party affiliation to liberal democrat since a tawdry sex scandal is a résumé enhancer for liberals. You just need to look at Frank, Kennedy and Clinton as proof of that.
