DOYLE'S MELTDOWN

By Charlie Sykes

New poll shows that Jim Doyle may be Dead Man Walking.

Raleigh, N.C. – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle is suffering from a poor approval rating and trails two possible 2010 opponents, the newest survey from Public Policy Polling finds.

60% of voters in the state say they disapprove of Doyle’s work in office, with just 34% approving. While Doyle continues to maintain a decent 61% approval from Democrats, just 6% of Republicans think he’s doing a good job. He also meets with disapproval from 69% of independent voters.

In possible 2010 contests, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker leads Doyle 48-40 and former Congressman Mark Neumann holds a 42-41 advantage. It’s safe to say theearly lead for the Republicans has more to do with Doyle than it does with either of them individually, as just 33% of voters in the state have a favorable opinion of Walker and 26% have one of Neumann.

Doyle’s unpopularity is pretty universal across the electorate, with every demographic group PPP tracks by ideology, gender, race, and age disapproving of his performance except for African Americans and liberals.

“If he had to stand before the voters today Jim Doyle would probably not get reelected,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling.

Doyle's doing his best to tax to death every Wisconsinite, spend more money we don't have - even during a recession, with jobs being lost daily and businesses continuing to leave the state. Doyle's lack of fiscal responsibility for years has finally caught up with him. Too bad WI taxpayers will have to pay for the Governors ineptitudes. So Doyle trashes the state, leaving it a financial mess, and he will either choose not to run again OR lose to Walker. Doyle's a lying crook and needs to go.

How can this be? I mean, the polling done by the organization affilated with the Daily Kos just told us last week that either Doyle or Lawton would trounce Scott Walker.

Now that we know that you are voting for Walker, you should change the name of the post to Walker, Neumann lead Doyle. I think that would further prove the valid point that public opinion of Jim Doyle continues to slide. Someone reading the title and not the article might think Walker and Doyle are the only 2 options here. Yup, you guessed it. I'm about as subtle as you. I would vote for Neumann.

I think Neumann is a good guy but a vote for him is as good as a vote for Doyle. Should he choose to run. Neumann would better serve the conservative movement to take out Kohl or FindGold. PS yes I know I spelled Russ's name wrong.

I'm confused. I read in the Journal Sentinel that claims most polls show Doyle ahead of Walker. You know what type of coverage the paper will have once the race is under way----Compassionate stories of Doyle's rise to politics vs. stories of how Walker messed up Milwaukee County during his tenure and how he is a cheap sake when it comes to tax payer dollars.

If Doyle signs this horrid budget, he's done. It's his and the Dems budget, they own it, they can't blame anyone. But in looking at the questions and results, both Walker and Neumann have their work cut out for them as each of their fav/unfav/undecided are spread pretty evenly across. They need to hammer on this budget and our own Rome burning while Doyle's fiddling with choo choo trains and fundraisers.

I agreee with the article and the posters here. Yes, Doyle gets ALL the blame. However, do not let all those Wisconsin voters that put him into office off the hook. If they voted for him they are just as guilty. As much as each and everyone of us want Doyle out, we all also have to hammer each and every person we know that voted for Doyle. This Is Their Fault!! Believe me I know a few and they know exactly what I think of them. Get involved...recalldoyle.com

Do not underestimate Dimond Jim and the multi-million dollar sleaze machine. When you have all the dough the Gov has shaken down, there is almost nothing that is out of your reach. I almost find it amazing that the usual suspects that are continuously railing about the effects of money on elections are suddenly (insert crickets chirping here) when it comes to someone who shares their politics.

Can there be any further doubt that our best chance to rid ourselves of Doyle is NOW via recall in 5 months rather than risk waiting 18 months and give him a chance to spend millions spinning and rehabilitating his image? If we miss this opportunity we will be kicking ourselves forever. 20 million dollars spent over 18 months can brainwash a heck of a lot of ignorant voters!

STOP THE PRESESS! MAN BITES DOG! Gosh, a far right wing polling outfit in North Carolina (they're always finding phantom conservative surges and non-existant Dem slumps) comes out with a poll saying a Dem might be "vulnerable." Hmmm, does anyone want to bet that Scott Walker running dogs (or Walker's Campaign itself) paid for this poll?

There is an election next year. We should not waste resources in a recall election now. CRG is just building up a database of volunteers. If you really wanted to replace Doyle, you should work to get Walker elected next year.

The poll was done by a democratic pollster. Listen to him talk to Charlie, he makes no bones about his party affiliation. Finally, the poll was not commissioned by any group, the pollster did it on his own.

He needs to be recalled asap, not only because of his own lies and corruption, but because by making him a target, we will send a strong message to other arrogant politicians. And he should be MUCH EASIER to get rid if in a recall, than in a scheduled election, judging by past successful recalls.

Response to Tyrone. I respectively strongly disagree. It is the time for a recall. We can't worry about the what if's or what would happen next. Doyle will always have his millions in special interest money ready to lie and slander ay opponent, any time. We need to act now because we can't afford to wait another 18-24 months. Also, we all know how short a memory the people have. 18 months is a long time and people will forget all about Doyles lies and deceit.
