STICKING IT TO THE KIDSBy Charlie SykesYou'll remember our discussion of the "Nobody says a word or the kids get it" memo.,. Well, Fred Kessler and other Democrats made good on their threat to whack school choice, a move that could result in hundreds of kids being kicked out of school. The strategy of (a) standing down and (b) "trusting" Democrats like Lena Taylor to work out a fair compromise has crashed and burned. Exit questions: does Howard Fuller still trust his Democratic friends? Does he still think it's a bad idea for choice supporters to call their legislators? Come to Madison? Raise Hell? ** Scott Walker minces no words: Fred Kessler and anyone in the State Assembly who votes for his motion |

I've actually been considering starting a blog.I suppose I'm a bit of a one trick pony because school choice is my passion and I spend a lot of time AND money trying to keep that in play. I look around my old neighborhood and see kids I grew up with graduating from MPS unable to read or constuct a cohesive argument to support their views, if they have any views, and thank God every single day that I am not one of them.

You know the more you think of it you may be right. I mean really, what kind of idiot could post some of the claptrap that bigcat can. WOW! What an eye opener, I think I’ll e-mail Charlie and tell him he has be found out.

Hey BigCat (?) spend some time in the schools, with the kids. The kids put down the students who get the "A's" because they are acting white. The amount of teachers' education means nothing when the teachers union call the shots. The schools are failing because the teachers are for the teachers, and they don't give a rats behind about the kids. Some teachers are dedicated to the kids, but most are governed by their own greed.

You might want to get a revised playbook; even some of the inner city leaders have recognized the total failure of bussing kids out of their school districts. What school loyalty can exist for a school that is 20 miles away from your neighborhood? You are such a WEAC underling that I sometimes wonder if it’s even worth responding to you but I guess I am just a glutton for punishment. At least you’ve hit all the usual talking points lack of sleep, FOOD and poverty.

OK, I think I have finally figured this out. BIGCAT is actually Charlie throwing up far left ideo-illogical view points to create activity on his blog. It must be, because could anyone possibly be that drunk on the Democrat kool-aid? Great idea Charlie!

Have any of you looked at Wisconsin schools as a whole lately? They are some of the best in the nation. MPS isn't dysfunctional b/c of the unions or staff. It is dysfunctional due to the poverty of its students. If I don't know what I'm going to eat or where I'll sleep, how can I concentrate on school? Any problems with public schools like Nicolet or WFB? If you want to help city students, why did the burbs nearly riot when Ch. 220 busing started? If you cared about city kids, you'd expand 220.

You did not hear wrong Bobby Jindal did go up against the teachers union, in fact even with the teachers union FULL support his liberal opponent could only get 30% of the vote to Jindal’s 54%. Louisiana was looking for a change and this time they picked a conservative and the positive results didn’t take long to show up in the inner cities. I wonder when Milwaukee’s inner city will get a clue.

Having standardized tests is not your agenda and you know it, It is a push to get the unions in take away individuality that allows these schools to excel. The reason choice schools exsist is because of (or lack thereof) performance issues. QUIT CHEWING THE UNION BUBBLEGUM!

The only way to fix MPS it to whack weac. And we all know that probably will not happen ....any time soon at least. ou know New Orleans , unless I heard wrong, axed their teachers union and the childrens test scores went UP significantly. But the liberals don't want that because that means the kids will have a clue.

Has anyone noticed that liberals always seem to terrorize the innocent or helpless members of our society? They kill the “useless eaters” (their term, not mine) like Terri Schiavo, they support infanticide thinking nothing wrong with killing someone BEFORE a child takes their first breath and deprive inner city kids a quality education because the teachers union members would rather guarantee their retirement home in Arizona than to insure an educated minority kid gets a new start. Pathetic.

Bigcat, you claim the budget creams public schools.....but if you think for one minute that our schools will cut costs to make ends meet, you are whacked. Our local property taxes will go up to make up the difference. You support choice for women but not choice for schools. Dems and Libs are all the same. You are a fraud and a HYPOCRITE.

Bigcat:Why do you hate me?Why does it bother you so much that I graduated in the top 5% of a real school instead of dodging bullets at Riverside or something? You and your stupid standardized test! Perhaps you should be outraged at the poor showing of MPS rather than outraged about kids being able to escape the mayhem. Fix MPS, if that is possible, and there will be no need for choice. Do you have kids? If so, do you plan to plant them in schools where teachers are not in control?

Well Big Cat, Private schools have worked with small budgets for years. This is not about their budget or qualified teachers and you know it, so stop pretending otherwise.

Public schools all over the state are getting creamed in this budget, but the choice program should remain untouched? expanded? There are a lot of great schools losing programs and staff. Choice vouchers are immune? Or is this just a smoke screen to hide your anger over this."Joint Finance Committee would require private schools in the program to give standardized tests and report the results, employ teachers who have at least bachelor's degrees and meet the same minimum hours of instruction."
