Good grief, what a petty twerp.
Republicans are trying to pass legislation in the next few weeks to kick off the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth, and the only hurdle appears to be Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), who is refusing to let the Senate vote on the bill.
Feingold’s decision to block passage of a bipartisan commission to celebrate the former president’s 100th birthday has nothing to do with antagonism toward the conservative icon. But he does want to use the momentum behind the bill to drive legislation of his own. ...

Reagan ended the Cold War with a victory over the Evil Empire of the Soviet Union - that's all you need to know - I don't have time or space to respond to the other minor complaints

Jordan, please don't direct your homophobic diatribe in my direction. My most vivid memory of Reagan was promising to end the department of education, cut taxes (he raised them consistently his second term), and withdrawing from Beirut (the single most emboldening event in the history of terrorism).

My condolences to you. And I will e-mail my own obnoxious senator. Who on earth cares about his amendment besides him? It is completely irrelevant. Feingold is just desparate to keep a Republican president from being honored in any way.

Bill - I agree with Charlie sometimes, disagree others, but he's an opinion/commentary guy and doesn't claim to be otherwise. Opinion is great - so long as it's clear it's opinion.

What is your point 'That One'...? That Reagan was a fan of Iran? Change your moniker to 'More On'... The most vivid memory I have regarding Ronald Reagan and Iran is that the second he put his hand on the Bible (on innauguration day), a hundred plus hostages (who had been held for 444 or so days under limp wristed Carter's watch) were set free... Nuff said you petty Feingold butt boy

Outrageous. I don't think Congress should be allowed to go on Memorial Day recess until this bill is passed. Maybe Iranian President Ahmadinejad can lobby Feingold--he must be a Reagan fan since he sold Iran 1500 missiles to secure the release of 7 American hostages in Lebanon.

This is plain and simple instead of making it an amendment make it a bill and see if it will pass on its own. A huge problem with the government on both sides of the aisle is attaching amendments which have absolutely nothing to do with the original bill. I thought President Obama said his administration would be more transparent. Well President time to step up to the plate as the leader of the Democratic party and tell this useless Senator to sponsor the bill he wants to make an amendment.

Why can't we recruit Bob Kasten to challenge Feingold for his old job. Kasten had an incredible deftness to only be arrested twice for drunken driving in DC, now that showed real ingenuity.

BigCat - I know this something a lot of people have a hard time with, but you do realize that there's a difference between a fact, an article, and someone expressing an opinion, right? A really big clue is that when the URL has the word blog or opinion in it, you're not getting an unbiased, objective view. Of course I'm sure, like a lot of liberals, you go by the standard: if I agree with it, it's fact; if I disagree, it's opinion.

I agree with Mark. If Feingold is so determined to simply, as BIGCAT alleges "...honor people of german, italian, (sic) ad jewish descent who were interred during WWII..." then it would pass with flying colors as a stand alone resolution. But the fact that he wants to attach it to other legislation that has nothing to do with it, makes me think that he has hidden something in his amendment that would be the proverbial "turd in a punchbowl" if it were to stand on its own.

Bigcat, the "problem" is that Feingold is too much of a wimp to put his bill up alone, instead attaching it to another bill...one has nothing to do with the other. That's the problem. He can't, or won't, do something for himself. Feingold is in politics for Feingold, nothing more.

Fiengold wants to attach an amendment that would honor people of german, italian, ad jewish descent who were interred during WWII. What is the problem? He asked to attach the rider and the GOP members blocked it. So it is the GOP that is holding up the bill as well. Good to know. If you want another look at the Reagan years, check out this website and book. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Tear_Down_Thiis_Myth.html It gives you a "no-spin" look at the 40th president's policies.

I believe the claims that Russ Feingold holds no ill will toward Ronald Reagan can be described in two words (letters, really) - Bravo and Sierra. Of course, Feingold is just taking after Jim Doyle.
