In addition to raising income taxes, hopsital taxes, business taxes, cigarette taxes, and gas taxes, Governor Doyle's budget also sticks it to property owners.

Madison, Wisc….]  A Legislative Fiscal Bureau analysis released today estimated that Governor Doyle’s budget proposal will increase property taxes for the median Wisconsin home by $91 on this December’s tax bill and another $134 the following year. It results in a 3.2 percent increase in 2009 and a 4.5 percent in 2010. Senate Republican Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R – Juneau) issued the following statement in response: 

“While the report estimates that the median-valued home will lose approximately $6,800 in value over the next two years, the owners of that same home will be forced to pay $316 more in property taxes. It is irresponsible to raise taxes on families when our state is in one of the worst economic declines in decades and unemployment is increasing at an alarming rate each month. People shouldn’t have to worry over whether they can afford to live in their own homes.

"Personal income is expected to decline for the next two years. Companies around Wisconsin have announced layoffs of thousands of workers in the past few months and our citizens are struggling to stay employed. The fragile nature of our state’s economy illustrates the importance of budgeting responsibly so that government is not raising taxes. Governor Doyle’s budget makes it more difficult for families to afford to live in Wisconsin.”
