Charlie, I heard the song, but then went to the YouTube site to see the video.  The site these kids being mesmerized into a single mindset, the glorification of a single political figure – regardless of the ideology – is beyond anything I’ve ever seen.  This isn’t just reminiscent of Hitler youth rallies.  This is parents and their children being baptized into a cult, reveling in the joy of their “single mindedness” that makes me wonder if the youth of this country will put us older folks – or those with their own opinions – into re-education camps. 

 

What’s also scary is the eerie resemblance the song has to the Tomorrow Belongs To Me song scene from Cabaret.  The look on the old man’s face as the children rise up to seize the country – right down to the slow, endearing lullabye that turns into a fervent march. 

 

The true test would be to see how Obama followers would react to an identical kids video for McCain. 

 

By the way, on the way to church, someone had spray painted over a sign that used to say “women” for McCain to make it “whores” for McCain.  You know the graffiti artist loves that song.

Watching this video has disturbed me more than almost anything I have seen in recent years.  It is the kind of exploitation of children that reminds me of Young Pioneer Camps I saw when visiting the Soviet Union in the Eighties.  You could say, as some have, that this is much like what happens with children in churches and synagogues across America, but this is about a political figure - one of two current presidential candidates and the one leading in the polls. ...

 

And they complain about the religious right - can you imagine the reaction to a similar group of kids singing about McCain under the tutelage of an evangelical minister?
