WHAT WAS JAMES T. HARRIS'S CRIME?

By Charlie Sykes

Here's the video of our own James T. Harris pleading with John McCain to "take it to" The Chosen One. \

James made the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the front page of the Drudge Report, Fox News... and my show. (He's also on Sunday Insight this week.. 10 a.m. Sunday on TMJ4). Unfortunately, he has also become the target of a vicious hate campaign from the compassionate and tolerant left. His main sin appears to be that his both black and a conservative... apparently an unpardonable race crime in some circles. (See below.)

Harris recounts some of the reaction he's gotten:

There is no decoder ring necessary when you read some of the overtly racist blog comments I received from Americans of African descent who support Barack Obama. Here’s one mild example:

“Hello you racist dog.  You are officially dismissed from the African American Race.  How discusting to see you on the television with your white racist friends McCain and Palin.  To them you're just another Nigger.  I hope you fry in hell for what you said about a decent person like Obama.”

 “Go Obama-Biden08”

Nice.

It always surprises me how people can call me a hater as they spew hate. It’s so…

Hateful.

I stopped reading when my kids started to freak out.  The death wishes really bothered them.  They couldn’t understand why I was laughing and marveling at the level of vile vitriol. I mean it’s only political discourse, right?

“Daddy? Do people really hate you so much just because you’re voting for McCain?”

No. It seems they hate me because I’m a black conservative campaigning against the Chocolate Jesus. For me, it’s ideology. For them, it’s heresy.”

Seriously, I’ve received hundreds of e-mail messages and blog comments on my site from Americans of African descent, and 99% of them are drenched in racism.

Who’s “stepping and fetching” on the plantation, here?

I am an American of African descent with a conservative ideology being criticized for supporting that ideology, rather than supporting a candidate based solely on the color of his skin.

MLK, Jr. is rolling in his grave....

NOTE: If you want to see some REAL racism, check out the comments to his post.

I read the blog of a local TV personality today & she referred to Mr. Harris as "opinionated". Aren't we all opinionated? I just love it when someone gets that label the second they don't agree with your own point of view. Get real...we all have a right to voice our opinions & I guess if that makes us opinionated, then so be it!

In 1958 in Illinois, Abaham Lincoln gave a powerful speech regarding slavery in which he said "I believe this government cannot endure half slave and half free." This argument was considered moderate among the antislavery forces and it established Lincoln as a leader of what might be considered a centrist party, the REPUBLICAN PARTY. In 1960, Lincoln went on to defeat pro slavery DEMOCRAT Sen. Stephen Douglas. Douglas envisioned a nation "forever divided into free and slave states..."
