MOST POPULAR

By Charlie Sykes

A week ago, nobody had heard of her. Today, according to Rasmussen, Saarh Palin is more popular that either Obama or McCain.

Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.

The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.

So this is kinda like electing the Student Council in high school, right? Who's the most popular, right? Cheeks McCain or pretty Obama.

Was Palin interviewing for the job of Vice President or as a double for Tina Fay on Saturday Night Live? Her cracks on Obama were funny and I thought her voice was borrowed from the movie Fargo. After doing some investigation (since she gave us no substantive stances on issues), I see she TRIPLED production taxes on big oil and seized control of a privately owned gas pipeline from big oil in Alaska. And, after initially supporting the bridge to nowhere, then vetoing it, she kept the money.

Friday, Sep 5 at 8:47 PM One Who Knows wrote ...

Palin is a breath of fresh air, but the fact is she imposed a windfall profits tax on oil companies in Alaska, as we know when Democrats propose such a thing it is horribly wrong, when Republicans do it it is simply ignored. She was also McCain's 3rd choice, Lieberman and Ridge being 1-2 so the question is, who is running McCain? And who is making his decisions for him, is he incompetent, doesn't care or just doesn't know?

Bob: I agree with your comment below denouncing ignorant, hateful and insulting remarks. I'm sure you'll agree that there are 18 months of insulting, hateful (and sometimes racist) comments on here about Obama as well. For a quick reminder, go down to Charlie's blog today "Even More Impressive", about Palin, and read Peter THEB's comment about Obama. Uncalled for? And, what about the sexism Hillary faced? It was a punchline on this blog, now it's a rallying cry. Hypocritical, indeed.

I agree with jeffw. When Obama has to answer unscripted questions from the press, he will be exposed for the lightweight he is.

jeffw your mocking of my comments doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the fact that you folks are doing exactly the same thing with Ms. Palin as you claim we are with Obama. That is making her out to be the savior of the Republican Party and the country when 7 days ago you couldn't have even told me who Sarah Palin was.

a prepared speech ... actualy the teleprompter broke down and using an old draft of the speech essentially hit a grand slam. The Messiah? Lost without his teleprompter. Try a different set of talking points.

Here is just the beginning of stories to start coming out about Ms. Palin. http://www.crosscut.com/politics-government/17341 McCain will end up regretting this pick because 4 weeks from now he will be waist deep in stories that his campaign is going to have to deal with just like Obama had to deal with Jeremiah Wright for months.

Can't wait to see "The Chosen One" in the No-Spin Zone tonight again. O'Reilly knows how to make him squirm. Too bad Bill's not a prosecuting atty.-he'd have Bubba twisting, writhing & seething too.

These numbers are after 1 week of Obama's prepared speech. I think the jury may still be out on Obama and he has to answer questions he doesn't have prepared answers to. In the end it will probably come down to the debates. Obama's "ums", "uhs" and "ands" will be obvious without the aid of the teleprompter. I really can't believe that after people think about the possible ramifications of putting "the One" in the Oval Office that this pick is going to look as good as the left seems to think.

Bob you are joking aren't you or should I list all the names Obama has been called on this blog. This whole Palin nomination is really showing you folks for the hypocrits you are.

I know that Bill is smarting because the shine is rubbing off of his chosen one. That is to be expected as Obama is placed under more scrutiny, more in line with what Sarah Palin has already experienced. Isn't this a wonderful time in our political history? A time when we have another female candidate for vice-president of the United States. Not since Geraldine Ferraro have we been this fortunate. Bill, your demeaning sarcasm not withstanding, savor the ratings as Sarah's will surely improve.

Renee, you are not going to get through to Bill, I am afraid. Liberal men, like Bill, just repeat the feminist talking points. Bill doesn’t understand REAL women, or how much REAL men love them so. Therefore, in the end guys like Bill will never see what hit them.

You are wrong, Bill, and you don't understand the "typical" American woman. We are mothers and most of us are pro-life. She speaks to us. Hillary Clinton joked about making cookies and motherhood seem like a joke. We love her and are energized. The libs just can't stand it.
