PALIN: THE MOST POPULAR GOVERNOR

By Charlie Sykes

Who is Sarah Palin? Fred Barnes has the backstory....

Larry J: If Mike Ellis could campaign, debate, endure scrutiny, and win a primary like Bush (5 yr gov) or Obama (12 yr legislator), I'd say yes, he may be qualified. Truth is, it would take a miracle for him to even be competitive vs. Herb Kohl. Ellis might draw 500 to a rally in Neenah, but not in his wildest dreams could he draw 50,000 in Portland, OR. You can't compare one pol's experience to another. Experience, intelligence, $money!, toughness, ambition, and (yes) charisma, all matter.

to Nice Try: Thanks for the insightful response - calling the opposition stupid proves your argument, right? What I know is that Palin has successfully fought corruption in her state, and said no to Stevens "bridge to nowhere"... BTW, I'm an English teacher, so I'd probably be able decipher some of the link you'd care to send... and I should have said you Moon-Bats are CLUTCHING at straws, not reaching for them, but you obviously got my point since you took the time to send an inane comment

She's AWESOME!! The best thing since sliced bread! How come nobody knew about her before this?!

Hey genius. Nobody said anything about the bridge to nowhere. Stevens has been INDICTED on corruption charges. She supports him even after that. Talk about reaching for straws. I'd send you a link to the story, but I doubt you would understand it.

To More Hypocrisy: Palin DOES NOT support Sen. Stevens and his bridge to nowhere. You moon-bats are reaching for straws against her. She's an awesome choice! Yes, I'm one of those bitter people (ha ha) clinging to my religion (though myself and family are currently doing OK), and I'd cling to my guns too if I had any. Though I'm from the "big city" of Milwaukee, I seem to agree with everything she's said - how did that happen? Need I mention I'm Pro-Life?

So Frannie. Mike Ellis has served in the Wisconsin Senate for more than 8 years. Lets say he runs against and defeats Herb Kohl. 140 days later he declares himself a canditate for POTUS. Using your logic, Mike Ellis is qualified to be President of the United States. Funny isn't it how just changing the name illustrates the absurdity of Obama's qualifications to hold this office?

When people talk about the size about Wasilla,to me it just shows like Obama said in his speech in SF is that small town America hold on to their guns and religion. In a small city, you can't get away with anything, unlike the big city where you can waste 100 million dollars on schools and get nothing back, but people will think nothing of it. By the way, just because you are going to be 72,doesn't mean you are going to die tomorrow.

You can tell how good this choice is......the loony left are out in force denouncing Palin on every forum out there. They know that McCain made a brilliant political move.

Hey moonbats - you criticize Palin's lack of experience? Bring it on! Palin has more experience than His Most High Obamaship, and isn't a corrupt Chicago politician!

Friday, Aug 29 at 3:03 PM Frannie wrote ...

I'd like to correct a couple of things Walt wrote on here. #1, Palin wasn't mayor of the 2nd largest city in Alaska: she was mayor of Wasilla, pop. approx 9,000 (probably closer to 6,000 when she was mayor back in the late 90's.) Anchorage has 300,000 people, Fairbanks and Juneau are 2nd & 3rd at approx 35,000. The population of the State of Alaska is smaller than the city of Milwaukee. #2, 145 days? Obama spent 8 years in the IL Senate, and is serving his 4th year as a US Senate.

Happy 72nd birthday, John McCain. A frighteningly high risk and politically motivated pick. It's sweet that McCain wants to embrace women. She's got a great record of taking on ethical problems in Alaskan government and then riding that wave into the governorship. But, her lack of experience is shocking. Obviously it's a plea to energize those whose singular issue is pro-life. I'm sure we'll be seeing nurse Jill Stanek all over the airwaves and blogs in the next two months.

AWESOME! Both my neighbor's and mine Obaba yard signs came down this morning. Can't wait to get our hands on McCain/Palin replacements. Thank You Senator McCain!

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:54 PM Hey Walt, wrote ...

Your research skills need a little work. Wasilla is the 9th largest city in Alaska, not the 2nd. And it is under 5,500 people, not 9,000. And you seem to forget that Obama was a state senator. As for Ayers, they were in the same room a few times. Big deal. The Rezko thing, wow, he sold him a 10-foot strip of land. Notice, in neither of those cases is Obama under investigation. Palin is. Obama graduated magna cum laude from HARVARD LAW. Palin has a bachelor's in journalism from Idaho

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:46 PM Dawn wrote ...

Walt, I have spent hours trying to find some real story concerning Rezco and Ayers in relation to Obama. Obama is not related to the Rezko indictment! He didn't commit Ayers crimes. Pleeeese Show me the charges and the proof. Yesterday either you or your friends said their would be proof Obama is a Chicago Mobster. You better be able to back that nonsense.

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:14 PM Can it really happen? wrote ...

Absolutely brilliant choice for McCain. Palin is a young, intelligent, experienced leader who just happens to be the mother of a soldier, a special needs child and is a beautiful, classy woman. Go McCain-Palin!!

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:13 PM Walt wrote ...

More Hypocrisy, let me try this one. Yes she is a first-term governor (and a Mayor of the 2nd largest city in Alaska) but YOUR GUY only has 145 days in the U.S. Senate, so your point is????? This “investigation” you talk about, you better read up on it first, and while you’re at it look up the Obama / Tony Rezko (indictment) INVESTIGATION in Chicago AND the Obama / Bill Ayers flap. Trust me your guy has A LOT MORE baggage.

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:03 PM Dawn wrote ...

Good choice Mccain! Now we no longer have to listen to the republicans' claims of Obama being too young and inexperienced. Suddenly it's o.k. to be a fresh face who owes no favors (Tim- Obama is not bought and paid for, nice try). I too have read that she is under investigation for having someone fired who would not fire her former brother in law. Ethics? We'll see. She may have done nothing wrong but just imagine what Charlie would say if the same investigation was about Obama and not Palin.

Friday, Aug 29 at 12:02 PM Walt wrote ...

To mp, you liberals are so pathetic it makes my head hurt. You make fun of Palin’s mayoral executive experience because the size of the city was only 9,000 while you ignore her experience as Governor. Well let me ask you a few questions; first how many cities have Obama/Biden have executive experience in running and how many years have they served as a Governor. O! Yah, she is also Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard, how about your guys.

Friday, Aug 29 at 11:37 AM mp wrote ...

Arnie B says: She has "EXECUTIVE" experience as a two year governor and mayor of a decent sized city. Decent sized city? 9,000 is "decent sized?" Wow. Fond du Lac must be HUGE!

This is an outstanding choice on quite a number of levels. Both my wife and myself are quite excited about Gov. Palin's selection. This could well energize those in the GOP who were willing to support McCain, but were not particularly enthusiastic about it.

Friday, Aug 29 at 11:12 AM Janir wrote ...

I disagree. She has the credentials as a true conservative, including the willingness to take on the RINO's in her state. Her experience, from Mayor to Governor is almost administration, even more so that McCain. She's a conservative that needs to be groomed for greater things to help revive the Republican Party and Washington DC in general from it's big spender, special interest ways.

Friday, Aug 29 at 11:10 AM Arnie....lol wut wrote ...

Arnie. She was mayor of Wasilla, AK. It has a whopping population of under 5,500 people. Woo hoo. That's some great experience. And for those talking about her integrity, check out the investigation she is under that hypocrisy mentioned. I see the spin starting already.....whhhheeeeee!

Friday, Aug 29 at 10:51 AM Tim wrote ...

AWESOME! I like the pick Charlie. Maybe not my first choice but I like her integrity. I think it will go well now with those of us who are more conservative than McCain. I think McCain went outside the box with this choice and did well. With the joke last night (a circus) in Denver, I hope the GOP shows a lot more integrity than the dem's. I like someone who is not afraid to go against there party. You won't see THE ONE do that. He is bought and paid for. McCain/Palin sounds good

Friday, Aug 29 at 10:48 AM More Hypocrisy wrote ...

So if Obama is too inexperienced to be president as Republicans love to point out, then how can you justify this choice? She is a first-term governor, with less than two years experience. And with as old and in as poor health as McCain is, she is that close to the presdiency. Oh, and Charles, don't forget to point out that she is under investigation for trying to get her ex brother-in-law fired. And she is supportive of the indicted Ted Stevens. Let's watch Charles try to spin this one now.

When reading the linked article, I was impressed with Gov. Palin's successes in Alaska's politics. While Obama talks change, Gov. Palin actually succeeded, cleaning out unethical Republican and Democratic Alaskan policitians. Whoever I vote for, it won't be because of their race or sex, but skills, experience and accomplishments. So far, McCain-Palin have more.

Sarah Palin is absolutely a brilliant choice. She has "EXECUTIVE" experience as a two year governor and mayor of a decent sized city. She has a son in Iraq, a disabled son with Downs Syndrome, and between her and her husband are still able to maintain a seven member family with values AND still hold down an intense job with grace and vigor. Her inexperience is where it should be. On the second step of the ticket. Experience on top, inexperience learning from a mentor. PLUS, Sarah Palin is female

Friday, Aug 29 at 10:28 AM Debbie wrote ...

This is such a fresh choice. What a way to bring about change? (as Obama states he wants to do) This gives the people a feeling that new things are to come and a light at the end of the tunnel. It put a spring in my step after hearing. The fact of a lack of experience doesn't bother me as much as the staleness I see in the Democratic choice for the same office.

Charlie:I think this is a very big mistake of Mccain to choose Palin. It is all show.He wants to get Hilarys vote, and have a ace in the hole when it comes to drilling for oil in Alaska.I vited republican last time but will be voting democrat this time. Thanks Tom
