Brett's luster may be fading... results of a new WPRI poll.
In the ongoing clash between Brett Favre and Green Bay Packer management, the Wisconsin public clearly favors Packer management. By a 60% to 16% margin Wisconsin residents believe that General Manager Ted Thompson and Coach Mike McCarthy are more concerned than Brett Favre and his supporters about the long term future of the Green Bay Packers. In addition, Brett Favre, who over the last several years was by far the most popular individual in the state of Wisconsin, has seen a sharp decline in his favorability among Wisconsin residents. These are key findings of a survey of Wisconsin residents who expect to vote in the November election. The survey was conducted by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute on August 3 and August 4, 2008.
The support for Thompson and McCarthy ran through every major section of the state. In fact, the strongest support came from the City of Milwaukee where 75% of the residents supported them while only 3% favored Favre. In the Green Bay area, Thompson and McCarthy enjoyed 71% support while Favre and his supporters were at only 15%.

Journal Communications is joined at the hip with the Packers. (financial) So whatever they say about the Favre situation should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Comparing the trio of Mark Murphy, Wile E. Thompson (Supergenius) and Mike McCarthy to the Three Stooges is an insult ... to the Three Stooges. Larry, Moe and Curly were funny. These clowns are pathetic. Add Aaron Rodgers to that mix as Shemp, and as Steve "The Homer" True is fond of saying, two Shemps don't equal one Curly.

Alright people.... As much as I like Brett and will miss having him play for the Pack please remember..... IT IS JUST A GAME. And for those people who call Brett a "hero".... Give me a break. He is not a "hero". He gets paid a heck of alot of money to play a game. There are real heroes out there. Brett is not one of them. Can we all return to reality?

As it stand right now, I hold no support for either Thompson or Favre. Both parties, TT with his puppets McCarthy and Murphy, and Favre, with his diva-like attitude, deserve backlash for this fiasco. Now that that is said, I agree with both sides. The Packers are a business, and no one player gets to run the team's business. Favre was/is a great player, and I believe he WAS forced out. But he said in plain, simple English, "It's Over" and he had "nothing more to give".

When he initially tried to come back, I was worried about this, as retired players rarely make it in their comeback, but soon, my respect for the man turned south badly as the weeks...and weeks....and weeks went on. Thompson and the Packers Organization---not the team, mind you---also have lost my respect for the way they pretty much locked and braced the door after Brett left, with their "Okayokay, he'sretirednowsolet'sgetAaroninthereprontoGogogogogogo!!' attitude.

One Who Knows, OK so by your estimate Brett will be sorry after the “5th or 6th game” with the Jets and indeed he may, the Jets had a dismal year last year 4 & 12 so you may be right but look what he has to work with. The Packers are a contender this year (as they were last year with Brett) so if Thompson & McCarthy can’t bring the Packers up to a higher percentile than Favre was able to bring up the Jets would you also agree that Thompson & McCarthy should retire?

LLB, you may be right about the media’s obsession over this story but it’s not Brett’s fault, he doesn’t control the media. The media can HIDE successes in Iraq so why couldn’t it hide most of this story, it’s an election year can’t they find other stuff to write about? True Packer fans will move on but to toss out a Packer Icon who made us look forward to the next game, excited us during the game and gave us something to talk about all day on Monday is something we can thank Brett for.

I am starting to get tired of hearing Brett Brett Brett all the time. The Packers are a TEAM folks. Brett had his feeling hurt...Mangement didn't listen to Brett...Brett wants this Brett wants that. I am sick and tired of tractor watch...I am sick and tired of waiting to see what Brett wants to do...I am sick and tired of the evening news being all Brett all the time. Brett thanks for the memories...thanks for the Super Bowl, but it is time for you to go and then TEAM to move on with Aaron...

Jackie, I am with you. I just added the Jets to teams I want to watch & support, if for no other reason than to support the greatest quarterback in NFL history. Brett loved GB but management made the work environment hard to concentrate on the game (that will come out some day). Charlie had a caller who “lost all respect for Brett”. How can a “fan” give up so easily before the season even starts? I for one need a little more time to hear the REAL STORY between TT & Brett.

Now that he is with the Jets after about the 5th or 6th game of the season Brett is going to wake up and say, You know Thompson and McCarthy were right, I should have stayed retired,

TT is a genius. A strategic genius for the insight that the player second in MVP polling was in fact of no real value, and a tactical genius for telling the world a player was of no value to GB going into negotiations to trade him.

I've been one of Brett's biggest fans and have lost all respect for him. If he doesn't believe the team should be run as a business, who does he think is paying him "big bucks"? I think he has let his fans down big time. He is not the only one with emotions. He should grow up and stop acting like a spoiled brat.

TT needs to pack up and leave. Until the McCarthy press conference yesterday, I still supported him. Now I feel he should pack up with Ted. TODAY Brett is unquestionably BY FAR the most durable PLAYER in NFL history. He is unargubly in the top 5 QB's in the NFL. And TT offers $20M to sit? Then shows him the door when he tells them he would rather play? What a dumb a$$. Brett made some mistakes here but so what. As a Packer fan I want the best team on the field on Sep 8. What do we have now?

its a PR debacle. Sending Brett to Tampa is like Disney sending Mickey to Warner Bros. Guys who end up #1 in the record books and dominate their position are invaluable. As the Mannings get closer to Brett's records over the next 10 yrs - his name and the Packer's will always be at the top. You can't buy that kind of publicity for the fans. Packer mgt had an oppty to extend the records... expand the legend - they took the easy path. Push egos aside. You dance with the girl that brought ya.

I've lost a lot of the respect I had for Brett. I thought he had a lot more class. The Packers didn't handle the situation extremely well, but we as the public don't know everything that went on behind closed doors. McCarthy was right to let Brett go, if he couldn't be part of the team, he should leave. Football is a team sport, not a me sport. Brett has been acting like a diva to put it nicely. Always been a Packer fan, always will be. Good luck Aaron and GO PACK!

Green Bay can now go backwards again. These young guys have been made good by Favre; now when Rodgers cannot get them the Ball; what we gonna' do - send in Brian Greise or Chad Pennington.

I can't believe what I am reading here and some of the commentary I have been hearing on this station. Who took this survey? Everyone that I have spoken with regarding this saga thinks Thompson should be fired. Brett knew he wasn't welcome the minute Thompson came on board. That is why Brett took so long each year to make up his mind. How would you feel? TT wants his own protege A-Rod. SO SAD! Packer revenue will be out the window and there will be more Tampa Bay fans! Me included!

One of the most disgusting things to come out of all this mess is the negativity aimed at Aaron Rogers from the so-called Packer fans at training camp and family night. Aaron has shown nothing but class throughout this whole circus. I say shame on those of you shouting the nasty comments. Remember the Packers are a team, not one individual. Brett did not achieve his accomplishments on his own. Wake up Packer fans! The post-Brett Favre era was coming at some point. It's time to move on!

They gave him the chance to come back with some humility... and he couldn't do it. I have enjoyed watching Brett play and have celebrated his victories on/off the field. I am saddened that his Packer history closes with such a tainted ending. I will not cry over Brett, the adulation and financial rewards that he garnered here have placed him and his family into lifestyles that most of us cannot even imagine. For that reward/privilege, I was hopeful for more class. Go Aaron. Go Pack!

What is so ridiculous is that this is about grown men lashing out at each other about a game. Packer Management looked like they didn't care and Brett got his feelings hurt. This is where a team owned by the community shows its weakness and the true "owners" of the Packers (the public) have no say. I have completely lost interest in the Packers because of this whole thing and how poorly it was handled. The only true grown-up in this entire situation has been Aaron Rodgers who has been high class

The pack is still my team. But is wish Thompson, McCarty and Murphy would leave. Those three are like all new management, they want there own people. They do not have the best interest of the Packers in mind, only want to cover their own butts. What did Rogers do get the job handed to him? Where was the packer board during all this? The new management team does not care about how the Packers are great team and are not a heartless corp.

The survey was worded right. The Packers are a TEAM, not just one person (BRETT). What is best for the TEAM? For whatever reason I think Brett never had intentions of playing for the Packers this year when he reinstated. If he did then why the heck isn't he doing the QB competion(which he would easily win, and all involved were open to it) and starting for the Packers this year? Brett's acting like a Diva! He owes us fans (you know, the people who made him what he is)a very good explanation.

I find it amazing that the media complains about all the attention this story is getting, yet you keep digging up useless information such as this. I think WTMJ should start worrying about their long term future. How many people are going to be listening to the Packers when they return to being the joke of the NFL. (remember the '70's & '80's) I'm sure your rates for commercials are tied into your ratings. Hopefully you will pick up some listeners during the search for a new GM & coach.

The poll can certainly show different numbers asked slightly different. This talk about best QB competing, is that what happened last year? I think Favre was the QB without competing and should have been this year. How can a team justify taking a winning QB and bench him. Certainly everything we have heard is only part of the story. Why else would the Packers hire a PR person for this? I hope the Packers win this yr, but I think we not making the playoffs. Will watch Favre there though.

Charlie, You of all people should know that a person or group can skew a survey to yield a certain result. This survey asked the question who has the best interest of the Packers in the long term. If this survey would have been worded differently like, "Who do you think is at fault in this situation Brett or the Pack" or who do you side with Brett or the Pack" I guarantee you the results would be different. By the way I side with Brett and not Ted Thompson

A ridiculous question in the way that it is framed in terms of long term. Of no news value. Why not a more objective question? Is a 38 yr old football player ever going to be perceived as thinking about the long term.

This is a deceiving & irrelivent pole. Of course Packer Management will be more concerned about the Long term future of the Packers, Their own future depends on it. All football players need to be more concerned about now. Is Ryan Grant concerned about the Packers long term future? Aaron Rodgers only concern is making the team and survivng this year. When Tampa Bay makes the playoffs & the packers are out of it by mid season, Ted & Mike will be concened about their future.

Every year we have played the Favre-watch game & Packer-Nation goes on hold until "The Decision" is made. But,for the first time, Bob Harlon isn't there to protect his QB & his main market drawing card. I feel this is just Ted T. doing what he needs to do-take back control of the business. No other team allows their business to be run by the hired help. I wouldn't either. Favre is going through what we all go thru at retirement time-post pardom depression.
