HELP CHANGE THIS LAW

By Charlie Sykes

Responding to the eloquent plea from Mike Farney (you can listen here)... who hopes to start a movement named after his grandson, who survived a crash that killed Oconomowoc Associate Principal Jennifer Bukoski, her daughter Courtney Bella and her unborn daughter Sophie. ....Badger Blogger has posted an online petition.

I tell you what is nuts. Changing the law from .10 to .08. The problem is not the .09 driver, it is the .24 driver with 4 convictions. Changing the standard merely ties up our system with superfluous and borderline cases, instead of focusing on the REAL problem. Shame on our state legislators for introducing .08 feel good legislation instead of eradicating real drunk drivers and real killers.

You have to look at Wisconsin's history. Many years ago, you plead down a DUI, but not now. Because of Wisconsin's reputation of beer making, drunk driving was accepted. Of course, penalaties should be tougher, but you have to get around the influence of the beer lobby and the Tavern Association.

Please continue to push for immediate action by our state officials. I'm sick and tired of the "do nothing" attitude in Madison. We give the "breaks" to the people on the wrong side of the law.

Nothing I say would be fresh on this subject. Like you and thousands of others, I am sick and tired of these drunks killing innocents. I love the idea of a petition. Take there car away forever, amen. Put them in prison for life, do what we must to end this "terrorism."

Please for the love of God put some bite and common sense in our drunk driving laws. Make people accountable for their actions. It is time the insanity stops in this state and our country.
