SHUT UP, THEY EXPLAINED

By Charlie Sykes

Apparently, they didn't get the memo on "coexisting." The Muslim Student association is "demanding" that Walid Shoebat's scheduled speech at UWM be cancelled. (This, by the way, is why we need to draw the line.)

Here is Shoebat's website.

Here are the emails:

Subject: *** Anti-Islam Speaker to Visit UWM *** Action Required

        As-Salamu Alaikum
Certain hostile organizations have sponsored the visit of a
well-known Hate-Mongerer named Walid Shoebat who is known for his
speeches attacking Islam and Muslims. The MSA has contacted the
University and are dealing with the administration to demand the event
be cancelled. The administration will be holding a meeting today to
decide whether the event should continue or not. The event is protected
by the right to freedom of speech.  We have noted to the University that
the event will create a safety concern for Muslims at UWM.  We ask every
Muslim who recieves this to voice their concern and demand the
cancellation of the event. Contact the Assistant Dean of Students Tom
Mcgginity at 414-229-6821. His email address is tommc@uwm.edu
<https://host210.ipowerweb.com:8087/webmail/DEFANGED_javascript:top.open
compose('tommc@uwm.edu','','','')>  Please be kind and courteous as he
is being cooperative.
The following is our letter to the administration given to them
last week:

        November 20, 2007

        To the UWM Administration:

Firstly we'd like to begin by expressing our appreciation for
the UWM Administration's constant support for diversity, cultural
awareness, and tolerance.   The Muslim Student Association amongst many
others enjoyed such privileges in its 30 plus years of existence at UWM.

However, it has been brought to our attention that an event
entitled "Why I Left Jihad" is scheduled to take place at UWM on
December 4th at 7:30PM in the Union Wisconsin Room.   The speaker of the
event is Walid Shoebat, a well known addict of hate-speech.  His writing
and speeches have deliberately rotated around inciting Americans with
fear of Muslims and Arabs, associating them with terrorism.   The
ramifications of allowing such hate-mongers to spread hate has been
clearly driven in the physical attacks on Muslims, Arabs, or anyone with
Middle-Eastern appearance following the events of September 11 th.

The Muslims at UWM feel that their safety will be in danger if
the above mentioned event takes place on the UWM campus.  We ask the UWM
Administration to cancel the event due to these circumstances for the
safety and comfort of the students.  We take such an event as a direct
attack on us and will hope the university will ask the sponsoring
organizations to discontinue the program.   You can reach us at our
office at xxxxx if you have any further questions or to schedule
a meeting to discuss this further.

We appreciate any efforts in this case.

        Sincerely,
        Mohamed ElSayed
           President
           Muslim Student Association

        Lina Abdulkarim
           President
           Palestinian Student Organization

I am just wondering how mr. shobate is going to talk about " why i left jihad" and he is known as a former PLO where PlO NEVER beleive in jihad, because they are a mrxism palestinian group?????

If anybody is at risk of physical harm, it is Mr. Shoebat; after all, he was born Muslim and left Islam for Christianity. The consensus in the Muslim world is that apostasy is punishable by death.

Reportedly UW Madison campus police tried to extort additional $ for increased security when College Republican's invited David Horowitz to speak recently. CR's stood their ground saying WI taxpayers already pay for UW police services.

How long will the oppression of Muslim women continue Mike? What penalties do men suffer under sharia law?! Next to nothing. Muslims may be sensored, but it is within their own extremist interpretations of their laws and the degradation of women

They leave that to their affiliates and radical sympathizers. The MSA doesn't have to do anything, they leave that up to those in the community who do it for them. 4 hate crimes in 2 years vs. how many global victims of radical islam?? Come on.

It's funny that this discussion revolves around censorship. Muslims happen to be the most censored citizens of this country. How many Muslim activists got deported? How many are in federal prisons without trial?

Also, maybe if the religion of Islam would not condone the lashings of people who crimes are commited against, or lashing those who might offend their religion...people would not have such animosity towards them.

Furthermore, the belief that anything but that is true, is what leads to racism in this country. People for some reason must differentiate themselves from otherrs, making themselves more significant than others. That is the mindset that breeds hate.

What is your definition of a Hate crime, mine is this, any crime is a "Hate Crime" the color of a persons skin should not denote that a crime against them is any more hateful than a crime against anyone else, ALL crimes are hate crimes.

The MSA is not in the business of speaking out against other religions. To the contrary, it is involved in many local and national interfaith efforts. There have been 4 recorded hate crimes against Muslims at UWM in the past two years.

Thursday, Nov 29 at 2:09 PM Adam H. FDL wrote ...

Aamer, who was going to perform hate crimes? The Muslims who were offended that Mr. Shoebat spoke the truth of their religion? How come when someone speaks against Islam they are a hatemonger but when they speak against christianity they are heroes?

Thursday, Nov 29 at 10:43 AM Aamer wrote ...

The MSA initially demanded the cancellation of the event, guided by the decision of Princeton University. It's not something new. The issue is not the limitation of free speech but the prevention of hate crimes.

Kudos on the info Allyson. In case anyone has not heard, Charlie said on his show today that Mr. Shoebat will be appearing on his show tomorrow, just to inform anyone who may be curious about what this man has to say...also his book is very good.

It is intersting that extra secutiry will be needed. Does that mean whenever someone speaks against Terrorists(not all muslims or followers of Islam) we should expect security issues from the lefties or "ofended" parties?

Wednesday, Nov 28 at 11:59 AM Allyson wrote ...

Absolutely, and I understand that and applaud Charlie for his consistency on initiative by wanting to bring him on air, I hope it happens. The only reason I posted that was so that anyone who is eligible to go is now informed and capable of doing so.

I understand that the event is free, but i work until 5:00pm and the drive from where i live would be in excess of two hours both ways...it would just not be plausible for me to attend, therefore hearing him on WTMJ as well would be a benefit to me.

Wednesday, Nov 28 at 11:01 AM Allyson wrote ...

Adam, this event is free and completely open to the public, it's just that pre-registration is required as a safety measure. You or anyone else who is interested in attending can e-mail uwmwalid@gmail.com or call 1-877-832-7200 to get in.

I for one hope that this fine gentleman isn't able to speak at UWM, and then takes up Charlies offer of coming on WTMJ. That way, his message would get to even more people than it would have gotten to had this just happened at UWM.

It's sad that anytime anyone wants to speak out against Islamic terrorists Muslims get bent out of shape If you really are against terrorism you should be standing beside him not preventing him from speaking Don't like it - please leave anytime.

"Please be kind and courteous as he is being cooperative." I'm also a member of the group that's hosting this event and I'd hate to wonder what they'd be if he wasn't cooperating with them and their unconstitutional activities.

Is this what the country has come to? I agree with Mark. This MSA group has overdrawn their bounds in attempt to limit free speech. Jim makes a strong statement as well. If the MSA can have their events why can't anyone else?

Tuesday, Nov 27 at 9:09 PM Mark wrote ...

I am one of the people helping with this event. I have to say that it is utterly disgusting to see one group, the msa, thinking their freedom of speech is worth more than ours. sorry but people get offended because of free speech...

Did the UWM folks ever have the Nation of Islam or the Black Panthers in to speak? I believe that they have. In fact, I believe that they've also had anti-Semitic Palestinian folks in to speak as well. Wish my memory was better. Perhaps yours is.
