PURE GENIUS

By Charlie Sykes

Via the brilliant Tom McMahon:

Just one of them from Atomic Trousers:

“COEXIST”(spelled out with various religious symbols)- If some of the followers of the religion represented by the crescent moon “c” on your cute little bumper sticker would stop hijacking planes and blowing up buildings, coexisting would be a little easier.

Which gave me the idea to make it a bit more realistic:

Coexist With The Commies And The Nazis, You Smug Little Twerp!
Coexist With The Commies And The Nazis, You Smug Little Twerp!

Raises the bar a little bit, eh?

I definately agree with the fact than coexisting is unrealistic. Although it sounds great overall, if you think about it any more, it's so much deeper than just "getting along"! What are we supposed to do? Sit here, not try to explain compassion, and just wait for the next Muslim attack, and think it's OK because they believe that that's how you get to their "heaven"? I'm not saying we should be pushy and obnoxious, but we are called to be disciples of Christ! (by the way,I'm Christian)

I would just like to say that he would be making a good point except this: The Nazi's, Communism, etc. were and are political idealisms, not religion. The point of the sticker is to show that a religion should not be a reason to hate. It is not a ridiculous liberal idea that people can not accept another's beliefs (since all of these are based on peace even if they are not followed that way). The Christian extremist is just as bad as the Muslim one (they had their turn at killing people).

Genius? Ah, no. More like disgusting and vulgar.

Why can't we all just get along!!! The Methodist Bishops just voted on the Iraq War Resolution and for out troops......Good for them...Perhaps many people here should seek anger management?

I am Christian, but I don't have any problem coexisting with Muslims, and don't think that their symbol inherently represents terrorism. Do you really think the same people who came up with the original would advocate coexisting with Nazis?

Amy P: How much of your "church history" is redacted that you've come to see it as so much more peaceful than Islam? Must be more than half, at least.

Fair enough. I was going for the quick reference and had run out of room in the comment block....still not exactly a truly peaceful outcome, though. No one has said anything about what corrupt men DID with that religion later, I notice....

I have no problem being "friends" with people of a different religion. But if a "friend" wanted to behead me, I think that voids the relationship, don't you? I have plenty of info on church history, for those of you unable to see the differences.

This is sad. What's wrong with wanting to coexist? I'm a republican. What's so wrong with wanting to be friends with your "enemies"? Ever read the bible?

OK, just to confirm. We should obliterate Muslims, right?

How could you dare to replace the star of David with a swastika - even as a joke or to prove a point? Seriously, have you no shame? Amy P. - Christianity has always been "the truly peaceful one?" Talk about "Pure Genius."

The original point is that the peaceful ones should get along. Inserting the evil symbols isn't parody and certainly isn't genius, it's just another stupid bumper sticker. It also seems a better argument for atheism than anything else.

Nice try, Mark. In Luke 12:51, Jesus was foretelling those who would oppose his followers and hate them because of Him. He was NOT calling on his followers to sow discord.

Mark G - Read that entire chapter in context. It talks about the division born of faith (read: some will follow, others won't); not using violence and jihad to further Christianity. I have a slew of references from the Koran for comparison.

It's an annoying bumper sticker...like most of those out there (right-wing, left-wing, it doesn't matter). But to use the phrase "the truly peaceful one on the right" is to ignore history...and some of the core teachings, like Luke 12:51

The people that display the old version are morally bankrupt. They can’t comprehend absolute truth, or true right and wrong. Lefties should like the new version. They think if we would’ve just talk to Hitler he wouldn’t have committed genocide.

I posted on this as well with a 9/11 picture and one of Islamic Rage Boy. We're supposed to co-exist with this? The Religion of Piece (of Arm, of Leg, of Torso)?

By the way, which denomination uses the Peace sign as their symbol?

I've always found that bumper sticker condescending, naive, and ignorant. Clearly designed by people who have no sense of the inherent and glaring differences between the deadly religion on the left and the truly peaceful one on the right...
