Next game: February 6th at Super Bowl XLV vs. Pittsburgh
Packers Gameday at 3:00 p.m. on Newsradio 620 WTMJ with coverage on Live at 10 on TODAY'S TMJ4 and Super Bowl Frenzy coverage online here.
ROCKFORD, Ill. - "Go Pack Go," said Vince Lombardi.
He thinks the Green Bay Packers can pull out a victory in Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas, despite the fact that, as he admits, "I root for the Vikings."
No, we didn't reach the five-time world champion coach.
To make the irony even worse, this Vince Lombardi lives in Illinois!
"Every time I meet somebody new, the first question out of their mouth is, 'Are you related?' "
Is there a relationship?
"There is not," said Lombardi.
Like the Packers Hall of Fame coach, this Vince was born in New York, and there, Lombardi is a very common name.
"I'm named after my great-grandfather, Vincenzo."
His family moved him to Minnesota when he was very young, and so Vince Lombardi grew up a Vikings fan.
"I don't hide the fact."
Although like most Vikings fans, "sometimes, I'd like to."
Even as a Vikings fan, he's proud of his name.
"I wanted to name my first kid Vince, and my wife wouldn't have it."
Despite his allegiance to the "Purple People," Vince is pulling for the Packers this weekend.
"I'm rooting for the Packers. I actually picked the Packers to beat the Bears in the NFC Championship Game, not because I liked any one team better, but I thought the Packers would represent the NFC better in the Super Bowl, especially since it's on turf."
