DALLAS - The Green Bay Packers have arrived in North Texas.
Their plans were to come back with a big piece of silver hardware on the return trip: the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after their former coach.
The Packers left Lambeau Field just before 12:00 p.m. and were heading to Austin Straubel Airport, arriving in Dallas at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon for their appearance in Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
Fans were given the invitation for an official send-off to Dallas, and thousands of people came to Lambeau Field to visit them.
"It is so energized right now," said Mayor Jim Schmitt to TODAY'S TMJ4's Tom Murray.
"They are my good luck boots. I've been wearing them for the last playoff games."
When the Packers arrive, they would head to the Omni Mandalay Hotel in nearby Irving, Texas.
It stands 28 stories tall, with 421 rooms.
The Packers will use every inch of space, including their 5,000 square-foot ballroom.
"There's enough space in here," sad Andrew Casperson, the GM of the hotel. "They can run some plays in here."
