Zoo Interchange closures are officially underway
MILWAUKEE - Drivers who use the Zoo Interchange will need to find alternatives as the next phase of reconstruction gets underway.
Ramp closures, lasting an entire year, began Thursday. Westbound I-94 traffic will no longer be able to exit onto northbound Highway 100 for at least one year.
Those taking Highway 100 and wanting to get onto the freeway will also be affected, but those closures will not begin until late in November.
Mike Burns with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is recommending some alternatives like Greenfield if you're looking to go east.
"There's additional capacity on Greenfield Avenue, extra lanes, extra length in turn lanes, as well as increased capacity," said Burns.
Despite the additional traffic on alternative routes like Greenfield, Wisconsin Avenue and Bluemound, Burns does not anticipate big back-ups on them.
