ST. FRANCIS -- A woman was shot inside her home in St. Francis early Thursday.
It happened at an apartment on 3500 Tesch Avenue. The suspect has not been located, but he's described as a shorter Hispanic man, wearing blue clothing.

Kevin Keul lives a block away from the apartment where the shooting happened. He said he hopes it's only a matter of time before the suspect is caught.

"Well, you can run but you can't hide,” muses Keul. “They will get you."

A man called police around 3:30 a.m. saying his girlfriend had been shot, and the suspect left on foot

"Unfortunately, things happen. Hopefully it's no indication of the whole city, because I take a lot of pride in living here," adds Keul.

Police are unclear if the suspect knows the couple or if it was a random shooting.

Neighbor Juliette Hills said she's not too concerned.

"No, because if it's a family affair, I don't think it's going to affect anybody else," remarks Hills.

Police said the suspect most likely left the area.

The woman is being treated at a local hospital.
