Woman rescued from bluff is fined
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A woman rescued after falling from a La Crosse bluff has been fined for hiking in a restricted area.
La Crosse Fire Capt. Frank Devine says the 22-year-old woman was hiking in a rugged, remote and dangerous area of Grandad Bluff Wednesday. The woman fell 45 feet and slid another 50 feet down the bluff. Devine say she suffered severe injuries.
A technical rescue team and paramedics hiked to the woman and used a rope rescue system to lower her down the face of the bluff. She was transported to a local hospital.
WXOW-TV says she was cited for violating a city ordinance, which carries a $303 fine.
