Wisconsin students rushing to take GED tests
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Students in north-central Wisconsin are rushing to take their high school GED tests before the exams get tougher.
GED, or General Educational Development, exams are a series of exams that certify students have achieved a high school graduate's skills.
Wausau Daily Herald Media reports the exams will become more rigorous on Jan. 1 to reflect higher high school educational standards. Scores on tests taken under the old system won't carry over into the new year.
Northcentral Technical College in Wausau has been writing letters for a year to students who have started the GED process urging them to finish before 2013 ends. School officials say they've seen about 160 more exams completed between January and October this year than in 2012.
