Wisconsin State Fair food competition finals get underway Tuesday
WEST ALLIS - State Fair is just a few days away, to get fairgoers mouths watering, the second annual "Sporkies" food competition finals will be held Tuesday.
There are eight finalists, and as you might expect, about half contain bacon.
"There is Bacon Wrapped Cherrywood Smoked Pork Belly On-a-Stick, a Chicken-n-Waffle Cone, and a Peanut Butter Bacon Bison Burger," said Kristi Chuckle, the State Fair's Communications & Marketing Manager.
But it's not all about bacon.
"We try to mix it up. We don't want to have all bacon. We have some desserts, and some that are entrees, and some that you would call more snacky type appetizers."
For the first time, the public is invited to attend the finals.
"There will be some samples. I worry a little bit about running out of samples, depending upon how many people come," said Chuckle.
All of the foods that were submitted by vendors for the competition will be available for purchase at the fair, which starts on Thursday.
Tuesday's competition starts at noon and will be held in the Bank Mutual Amphitheater.
