Wis. gov plans to ring virtual bell to honor march
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's office plans to join an international ceremony to honor the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech by ringing a virtual bell online.
King delivered the speech in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, 1963. Commemorations featuring bell-ringing are set to begin across the United States as well as in a number of other countries at 2 p.m. local time or at 3 p.m. EDT.
Walker issued a proclamation this month designating Wednesday as Let Freedom Ring Day in Wisconsin. Walker's spokesman says the governor will be participating in a motorcycle ride to celebrate Harley-Davidson's 110th anniversary on Wednesday afternoon but a member of his staff will ring a virtual bell on the commemoration's website.
