Waterford community comes together to help victims of tavern fire
WATERFORD - The community is rallying together after a fire ravaged a Waterford tavern.
A fire blazed through Martini Mo’z on January 3, destroying it. Plumes of gray smoke and red-hot flames leapt from the tavern.
Ruth Marquez is the manager and owner’s daughter. She’s grateful for everyone’s support.
“To know that we’ve touched so many lives – for them to respond in this way, is insane,” said Marquez.
Now, the community is raising money to help them, and others who were affected, like businesses, who suffered smoke damage. A benefit was held at the Rivermoor Golf Club on Saturday. Anyone who wants to donate can do so at the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce website.
Penny Markus bartended there. “I don't know if the community will ever recover. It was such a great loss,” said Markus.
Ruth doesn’t know yet if they’ll rebuild. But her mother has always toyed with the idea of opening up a bistro, so that could be a possibility in the future.
