Water main breaks to cost city of Milwaukee $2 million
MILWAUKEE -- The water main breaks in Milwaukee are going to cost a lot more than city leaders first thought.
Last month a pumping station was shut down because of a leak, which led to dozens of water main breaks around the city.
Officials now report more defects were found in a major pipe. The mess will now cost the city nearly $2 million.
"We're working out the financing in that right now, but again, we know we have to act quickly because July is when people really start using their water system a lot more," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
Barrett said most of the work should done by the first week of July.
