MILWAUKEE - Next week, thousands of local families will enjoy Greek Fest. But work on the annual tradition begins long before the crowds pour through the gates of State Fair Park.

Volunteers have been cooking up joy since early spring. Pat Galanis is President of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philopthochos Society. She's excited about the annual rite of summer. Galanis explains, "We want everyone to come in and enjoy the culture and come into our home."

TODAY'S TMJ4 was there as 50 pans of succulent baklava were being prepared. Volunteers were busy working on 5,000 pieces to be sold for the fest.
Denise Panos has been volunteering since 1953. Panos says, "I love the church, I love to help people. It's for a good cause."
Panos adds, "What we make, they're all pure. We make it with love and we're happy to do it. We're waiting for that every year."
So when you take in the sights and sounds and delicious treats at Greek Fest, just remember, the food was made with tender loving care by committed yiasyias. Admission to Greek Fest is free. It runs June 20-22nd at State Fair Park.
