EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout appears to be moving toward a run for Wisconsin governor.

The Alma Democrat told The Leader-Telegram, of Eau Claire, on Tuesday that she has hired someone to organize a statewide campaign. She has not yet officially declared her candidacy.

Thus far, the only Democrat to do that is Mary Burke, a former state commerce secretary and ex-Trek Bicycle Corp. executive.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Dave Obey says that if Vinehout or another Democrat gets into the race, he worries a primary would hurt the eventual candidate's chances against Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Obey campaigned with Burke last weekend in northwestern Wisconsin.

Vinehout says she's mostly amused by efforts to dissuade her from running.
