Vehicle fire closes northbound lanes between Seven Mile Road, Ryan Road
UPDATE 2:31 p.m.: There were no injuries in a semi truck fire on Northbound I-94 just north of the Seven Mile Rd. on-ramp this morning.
The fire ignited after the driver stated that the truck started losing power.
Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy was unable to extinguish a small flame coming from underneath the vehicle, according to a release.
Officials shut down I-94 Northbound and East Frontage Rd. to protect nearby vehicles from a potential rupture and explosion from the vehicles natural gas fuel.
Plumes of smoke were caused when the two tanks ignited, burning off the remaining fuel.
Northbound I-94 was closed for one hour before two lanes were reopened.
UPDATE11:43 a.m.: All lanes are now open.
Northbound lanes on I-94 are closed between Seven Mile Road and Ryan Road due to a semi cab on fire, according to the Department of Transportation.
The fire broke out around 9:10 a.m.
