University police investigating another attempted assault at UW-Oshkosh
OSHKOSH - Police are investigating three attempted assaults within one week near University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Officers say the latest happened overnight between Donner and Webster halls. The female student told police she was walking in a parking lot when a man grabbed her arm.
School leaders said these incidents happen once or twice a year, but have never seen three within such a short time span. They are asking students to utilize their safe programs now so more than ever. During the first week last year, only 23 students were escorted home. This year, 35 students are taking advantage. But according to school leaders, students are still not using it enough.
"No matter where they're coming from, we just want to make sure they're getting safe from point A to point B," says Shelly Maxwell with UW-Oshkosh.
School leaders also asking students to sign up for their text-alert program to receive warnings of campus emergencies.
Police have released a description of the suspect in this attempted assault: a black man about 5'10". He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored gym shorts with white tennis shoes.
