Tenants are suddenly seeking a new home
MILWAUKEE - Time is running out for families forced to find a new place to live after a porch collapse.
The apartment building at 24th and National has been ruled unsafe by the City of Milwaukee.
The families who lived there were given one day to vacate the building, many of them have been staying at a shelter opened by the Red Cross in Milwaukee.
Doreen Martinez is one of the many Red Cross workers who have been assisting more than thirty former residents.
"You just wish there was more to help them move along through the recovery." said Martinez.
She said as of Sunday, around eight people remain at the shelter.
The Red Cross said they have not comitted to an exact time and date when the shelter will close.
