Suspect taken into custody following hours-long standoff in Fort Atkinson

FORT ATKINSON -- A woman who threatened police officers and shut herself in her home was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff Monday night.

Multiple police agencies responded to the 400 block of Foster Street around 7 p.m. for a report of a disorderly adult female who was becoming violent, according to the Fort Atkinson Police Department.

The suspect went inside and displayed a long gun when officers tried to take her into custody. She then went on to call police dispatch and threatened to shoot the police officers outside. A gunshot was heard 10 minutes later by officers on the scene.

The suspect called police dispatch again and warned officers to stay back.

Nearby neighbors were evacuated for safety reasons.

The suspect was taken into custody around 12:50 a.m.
