Suspect dead after standoff in Wautoma
WAUTOMA - A 10-hour standoff is over between an armed suspect and law enforcement officers in Wautoma is over.
According to Waushara County Sheriff David Peterson, the suspect is dead, but details on how they died have not been released yet. The sheriff plans to release more information Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
It all started around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when the suspect robbed a pharmacy just north of Wautoma, then fled the scene.
A high speed chase ensued and Sheriff Peterson said gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police. The chase ended when the suspect crashed the getaway car in a construction zone on W. Division St. They ran into an unoccupied home.
Several agencies set up a perimeter around the house at S. Water St. and W. Division St. Officers evacuated several homes in the area during the standoff.
