Suspected burglar electrocuted on rooftop

MILWAUKEE - A man suspected of attempting to disable a security system Sunday night was electrocuted in the process.

According to the Medical Examiner's report, the man was observed hanging over the roof of Greer Tire on N. 40th st. near Mill Rd. by an employee who had stepped out for a cigarette break. The man was found unresponsive by the Milwaukee Fire Department.

The man had cut two wires and was grounded by the rubber in his shoes and the rubber handles of the wire bolt cutters. According to the report, it is believed that the man leaned over the the roof to cut a third wire and came in contact with the aluminum siding allowing a path for subsequent electrocution.

We Energies was on scene and stated that there had been several copper wire thefts in the area.

MFD believed that the man had a partner that helped him gain access to the roof, however it is believed that the person fled when the decedent was electrocuted.

Milwaukee police reported that the man might have been an active rooftop burglar in the area.

The man has yet to be identified, pending the notification of his family.
