Most area students head back to school after 2 days off
RACINE -- While Racine students enjoyed an extra two days off, many parents were itching to get their kids back in the classroom.
“You could tell he needed to get out of the house,” said parent Venice Bass.
Thanks to the cold snap, the long break now means a shorter summer break. Students now have to go an extra day on Friday, June 13th.
“I think typically parents understand that we have to make up that day, that’s it’s important instructional minutes for our students,” said Stacy Tapp from Racine Unified School District.
The district had one built-in weather day, and is hoping not to reschedule any more days.
“I would hope that we don’t have to call anymore school days for the rest of the year. I think our kids are ready to be back in school,” Tapp said.
While this teacher enjoyed the extra days off as much or more than the students, she doesn’t want to go any later in June.
“I hope for no more,” said Kathleen Sura.
