Students beat fundraising goal, duct tape teacher to wall
MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee gym teacher lost a bet and now he's paying his debt.
David Weidenbach, a gym teacher at James Reilly Elementary School, challenged students to beat their $1,000 goal in the schools "Jump Rope for Heart" event.
Students raised more than $2,000. To celebrate, they got to duct tape Weidenbach to the wall.
"A lot of kids do know somebody that has had a heart attack or has heart disease in their family," Weidenbach said. "So I think that was another motivating factor in the families to raise money and awareness for the heart association."
"Jump Rope for Heart" started in Milwaukee Public Schools in 1978.
