KENOSHA -- State Senator Bob Wirch is on a mission to ban products like facial scrubs and hand soaps made with microbeads. Environmentalist say The small plastic particles can be a threat to the environment.

"I was amazed that there were 350k thousand in a bottle this size and that is why they get through the filtration system," said Sen. Wirch.

The Five Gyres Institute conducted a survey on the Great Lakes and found a significant amount of the non-biodegradable products.

Environmentalist say those plastic particles attract toxins and become even more dangerous to marine life.

"It's crucial that we maintain our fish population out there we already have problems we don't need this extra problem," said Wirch.

Fishermen we caught up with on Lake Michigan see the proposed legislation as a no brainer.

"We have used the microbeads. On the back of the bottle it says they burst; I guess they don't burst," said Edward Sabo.
