'Spin City' rides undergo rigorous inspection prior to State Fair opening
WEST ALLIS - State Fair Park opens Thursday, and crews are inspecting rides to make sure everything operates safely.
Spin City is one of the few carnivals in the country managed solely by the fair.
Each ride and vendor are selected by fair officials in West Allis from companies all over the United States.
A third-party safety inspection company is also brought in to make sure everything is in working order, a process Joe Bixler says takes a lot of time.
"We've gone through this [rides'] mechanical systems, we looked at the assembly points, making sure all the nuts and bolts are correctly assembled," Inspector Bixler said.
There are nearly 60 rides this year. Officials say nine of those are new to the Spin City lineup.
