Snowmobiler rescued on Lake Winnebago
FOND DU LAC -- A man from Fond Du Lac was stuck out on the ice over Lake Winnebago for two hours, causing emergency crews to go out and rescue him.
Crews from 11 different agencies searched for over an hour after the man, who's name is not being released yet, called to say he hurt his ribs after crashing his snowmobile about four miles off shore while out riding with his brother.
First responders had a hard time locating the man in near white-out conditions. A plane from the Wisconsin DNR was able to locate him, and crews brought him to shore where he was treated in an ambulance.
The Calumet County Sheriff's Department said the man never went into open water, and they do not consider alcohol a factor at this time. They added that even though there have been cold temperatures, Lake Winnebago still has large areas of open water and is too dangerous to ride.
