MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee welcomes six new priests into the Catholic Church this week.

Three of those men are from southeastern Wisconsin -- Justin Lopina, 32, from Pewaukee. Nathan Miniatt, 26, from Beaver Dam. John Gibson, 27, from Shorewood.

Also being ordained will be Gideon Buya, 30, from Kenya. Peter Patrick Kimani, 39, from Kenya. Jose Mario Nieto Restrepo, 31, from Colombia.

The ordination ceremony will take place Saturday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

It's a big deal because the church is dealing with a major priest shortage. It's due, in part, to an aging priest population and lack of young recruits.

The new group of soon-to-be priests wants to help foster growth.

"I actually see the greatest potential of future  priests in young adults and middle-aged people," says Deacon Lopina. "I'm talking about people who've experienced the world, and have started to hunger for something more."
