Shots fired during chase with suspected burglar

MILWAUKEE - Neighbors tell TODAY’S TMJ4 they heard about four or five gunshots ring out. Now the man who fired at the burglary suspect is in police custody.

“They sounded like firecrackers,” recounts neighbor Reinaldo Lopez. “When I smelled the smoke - at that point I realized those are bullets.”

Lopez watched as police tackled a burglary suspect in his neighborhood.  Police state a man had already robbed one home , and was was trying to rob a second home when he was busted.  Someone saw him and called the cops.

Police tell TODAY’S TMJ4 that at least five officers and a K-9 chased after the suspect.

The chase started in Wauwatosa, but finished in Milwaukee. When the burglary suspect entered one of the backyards, a man fired several shots at him, but the bullets didn't hit him. Neighbors believe he has a concealed carry weapons permit.

“They caught him,” exclaims neighbor John Kowalski. “It probably happened all within 20 seconds. It happened pretty quickly."

Now, the man who chased the suspect and fired the shots, is in Milwaukee Police custody. He'll be referred to the District Attorney's office for possible charges.

The burglary suspect is in Wauwatosa Police's custody. Officials state there has been a rash of burglaries in the area. They're still trying to find out if this is connected to any of them.
