MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy has been suspended after he accidentally discharged a gun inside Froedtert Hospital.

The deputy had taken the gun from a patient, because guns are not allowed in the hospital. The deputy was attempting to clear the weapon, but it discharged. The bullet hit a wall in an exam room.

Sheriff David Clarke is upset. He told TODAY'S TMJ4:

"Attempting to clear a firearm in a hospital room is unimaginable. We don't train this way. This lack of awareness is serious enough to pursue a charge of recklessly endangering safety. This is intolerable."

The patient did have a concealed carry permit.
