SHEBOYGAN -- A Sheboygan police officer shot at a dog Wednesday evening after it "approached the officer in an aggressive manner."

According to the Sheboygan Police Department, the officer responded to a report of a white pit bull type dog that had been aggressive toward a passerby near N 4th Street and Superior Avenue.

Once the dog was located, police said the officer defended himself by firing one round from his service weapon at close range.

The dog was struck and retreated.

The dog's owner was located and the dog was taken in for medical treatment. The officer received a minor injury.
