Sheboygan attraction opens new doors
SHEBOYGAN - Spaceport Sheboygan has moved from the Armory to the South Pier in the city's Harbor Centre.
"This facility offers us a much better location, but also a newer facility that has amenities like air conditioning for our NASA artifacts," said Daniel Bateman, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Aerospace Science and Education Center at Spaceport Sheboygan.
Spaceport has many of its exhibits in place, including authentic NASA mission control consoles. Others are still on their way, like the sound wave generator, which produces sound waves you can actually see.
"And then it also has a microphone so that the individuals will be able to talk into the microphone and see what their voices look like."
The facility had its soft opening this week. Details for a grand opening are still being worked out.
"We're thinking we're going to try and bring in one or two Wisconsin astronauts to do our big grand opening because they've been helping with the planning of this for the last six or seven years," said Bateman.
