WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A bill to extend long-term unemployment benefits has failed to pass in the Senate.

Benefits for more than a million Americans expired just after Christmas. Republicans won’t support the bill until the cost of the extension is covered by other budget cuts.

Nearly 24,000 people in Wisconsin have already lost their benefits.
