Semi fire causes big delays Friday afternoon
A semi caught fire on I-94 just south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border afternoon, backing up traffic for miles in each direction.
Witnesses tell us a semi blew a tire, which caused another vehicle to flip. The semi was sent into the wall, then fire engulfed the entire rig.
"The truck driver's a little bit hurt, but they just brought him into the ambulance," said witness, Carlington Young,
Amazingly, both drivers suffered only minor injuries.
"Everybody's OK. There's just a whole bunch of people stuck in traffic, that's about it," said Young.
And they were stuck for a long time. Ed Maudie from Milwaukee was trying to get to the Black Sabbath concert in Tinley Park, just south of Chicago.
"It's just at a crawl. We shut the car off so it wouldn't overheat. You could smell the antifreeze," said Maudie.
Chris Brown was heading south from Racine.
"A lot of frustration. I mean, you think you're going to get to your destination a little bit sooner but you just have to slow everything down," Brown said.
And slow was no exaggeration.
"An hour and 35 minutes to get probably three miles," said Brown.
Traffic is moving again in both directions.
