SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- The battle over same-sex marriage in Utah is headed to the Supreme Court.

State leaders have been fighting to stop the unions since last week, after a US district judge ruled the state's ban was unconstitutional. An appeals court also refused to put the marriages on hold.

Hundreds of gay couples have applied for marriage licenses since the ruling.
