Salon owner apologizes after social media backlash

MILWAUKEE -- Many people are upset over how a woman fighting a brain tumor was treated at a wig salon. Now that salon owner is apologizing and offering to raise funds for blogger Alison Ziebell.

It’s been quite an experience for both women.

Alison Ziebell is battling a brain tumor and chronicling her story on a blog. It started as a way to keep family and friends updated. She recently blogged about a trip to Sharon’s Wig Salon. Now, a firestorm has spread on social media.

“The sales associate – I think her name was Patti, she said, ‘Good luck! I hope you lose all of your hair!’” exclaims Ziebell.

We talked to salon owner, Sharon Heyden, who says it’s a misunderstanding.

“I would give her a big hug and tell her how sorry we are for everything,” says Heyden. “She misinterpreted what we said.”

But that’s not all she wants to do.

“I want to donate $10 off every wig we sell for this next year. I also want to have a fundraiser for her on March 30th at the salon. I don't care what she did to me. I want to help them,” maintains Heyden.

For Alison, all the attention from the blog is too much. She’s considering taking the post down.

Alison says she actually changed her blog so people can’t comment anymore. The hundreds of messages she’s received are flooding her inbox.

She accepts Sharon’s apology, but doesn't want the money. Instead, she’d prefer Sharon donate it to charity.

As for all the positive comments Alison has received on her blog, she wants people to channel their energy into doing kind things for people they know, or even complete strangers.
