MILWAUKEE - Heavy snow may be to blame for a large roof collapsing at a business on Milwaukee's north side.

Customers and workers were inside when it happened.

The Milwaukee Fire Department and its Heavy Urban Rescue Team were called to American Freight Furniture and Mattress near 76th and Brown Deer road Monday evening during a snowstorm.

Deputy Fire Chief Aaron Lipski says a 100 by 60 foot section of the roof came crashing down while customers were in the store.

"They would have heard it and they would have felt it," said Lipski.

When the roof collapsed it set off the sprinkler system and that created another big mess.

Fire fighters hand their hands full when they first arrived not knowing if anyone was injured or trapped.

"Crews on the outside were able to quickly ascertain that everybody who was known to be in that store was actually outside so that was good," said Lipski.

No one was injured. Its unclear how long the store will be closed for repairs.
